Hosmed medical scheme was established in 1988 with a focus of being a reliable provider of medical cover for public service employees as well as the private sector. Hosmeds vision was also to provide a wide range of benefit and contribution options in order to cater for different medical needs and affordability levels as well as provide a sustained excellent and personalised service on a national basis to members and other stakeholders. In order to achieve this, Hosmed created the Plus and Value medical aid options.

The Plus option offers various benefits such as no overall annual limit subject to sub-limits not being exceeded and services rendered by public hospitals payable at 100% of cost, emergency medical aid whilst travelling outside of South Africa which is subject to completion of documentation prior to leaving South Africa, theatre fees, medicines, intensive care, surgical procedures including GP and specialist consultations, diagnostic investigations, blood transfusions, oncology, diabetes management programme, accommodation for confinement, psychiatric treatment including clinical psychology, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, organ transplants, dental hospitalisation, renal dialysis, sterilisation, physiotherapy and biokinetics, dietician and occupational therapy, circumcision etc. While clients are assured of finding the same services and products under the Value option, its important to emphasise that particular attention must be paid to the terms and conditions which are different between Plus and Value medical options.

The Hosmed medical cover is indeed very comprehensive and difficult to match in South Africa. Hosmed can be contacted on 0860000048 and trained consultants will be on hand to render the needed assistance.
